Accessibility statement

Our approach, current limitations and how to ask for help.

We want readers and contributors to be able to use Evolving Humanities in ways that work for them. Accessibility is part of maintaining the publication, and this statement explains our current approach and its limits.

Our accessibility goal

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, as a reference for improving the website. That is a working target, not a claim that every page has been independently audited or meets every requirement.

We are developing the site with a small team and welcome feedback from people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, voice input or other assistive technology. A statement cannot replace testing with the people who encounter barriers.

Features intended to help

The site provides a skip link to the main content, structured headings and keyboard-accessible links and controls. The story slider includes a pause control. Forms have visible labels, required-field indicators and focus outlines, and their layouts adapt to smaller screens.

Images can include text descriptions, and the site offers language and reading settings. We are working to keep contrast, spacing and navigation consistent as content and features are added.

Limitations and work still needed

We have not completed a comprehensive independent accessibility audit. Automated checks and individual browser tests cannot establish how every page behaves with assistive technology.

Some third-party content, embedded services or external websites may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control. Translations may contain errors. PDFs supplied by contributors may be untagged, scanned or difficult to navigate, and older articles may need improvements to descriptions or structure.

If an article, image description or document is difficult to use, tell us which page or file is involved. We will consider an accessible text alternative or another practical way to provide the information.

Report a barrier or ask for help

Use our contact form and select “Accessibility”, or email hello@evolvinghumanities.org. Include the page link, what you were trying to do and what happened. If you are comfortable sharing it, your browser, device and assistive technology can help us reproduce the problem.

You do not need to disclose a disability or provide medical information. If the form itself is the barrier, please use email. We will review the issue and discuss an alternative where we can; response times depend on our volunteer capacity.

Keeping the statement useful

We will revise this statement as we identify problems, make improvements or carry out broader testing. Feedback will help us decide which repairs matter most to readers and contributors. The current statement was updated on 19 October 2026.
