What happens

An all-cast day was still a novelty seven episodes in — the casino fundraiser had been the only one — so Whitney Rose’s snow-tubing trip to Soldier Hollow was staged as a summit, Angie Harrington included.

The ride there did the damage. On the road, a remark of Mary’s from last season resurfaced: her claim that carbonation hardens your ovaries. The women laughed. Lisa Barlow said, casually, that she’d have to Google it. Mary heard a verdict — her word checked because, she demanded, she is Black? In confessional she returned fire — maybe she should Google everything Lisa says, since Lisa is usually lying.

At the lot, Lisa tried to squash it — she’d meant nothing by it — then hardened: paint her as a racist, and they’d be having another conversation. Jennie Nguyen waded in, swearing, and told Mary to zip it. Mary ordered her to watch her language. Jennie’s answer — Mary isn’t her mother, and can’t tell her what to say — started a second war.

The tubing was almost calm. Mary rode up once, came down once, and retired to judge the races; the losers, Jen Shah among them, owed wigs at lunch. Lisa noted, coolly, that Jen had picked Heather, Whitney and Angie’s team over hers.

Lunch was the main event. Mary called the bus fight a misunderstanding, though she didn’t sound finished. Then Angie took her turn. Lisa, wanting an apology first, restated her position on the collapsed catering: nothing to do with her. The accusation stung worse because the cause is personal — her grandfather was gay. This group always assumes the worst of her, she said, and she wanted them off her back. The sharpest detail was who said nothing: Meredith Marks and Jen, her closest friends in the cast, stayed silent, while Heather, of all people, gave Lisa the floor. They hugged it out anyway.

Jennie closed the hour asking Mary whether they were good. Being ordered around had triggered her — and she’d been carrying something into the day: the anniversary of her daughter’s death. Mary bristled that Jennie wouldn’t look at her while saying it. A thin peace held.

Around it, quieter threads ran. On date night at a Cottonwood Heights oyster bar, the sister-wife conversation reopened: Duy argued polygamy was common in their culture, citing a patient with five wives. Jennie held her ground, teared up at sharing him, and suggested he needed therapy — to grieve their daughter. He softened: she’s his best friend; he doesn’t want to lose her. Meredith and Seth Marks talked futures over a property they may build on. Heather’s Beauty Lab party, a joint first birthday for the five babies her employees all had the year before, doubled as a debrief: Whitney argued Lisa had staged the double date to clear her name over the catering mess, drawing an unlikely dissent from Jen — that wasn’t Lisa’s style.

How it originated

“Slippery Slope” is the season’s pressure-cooker episode: one bus, one tubing hill, one lunch table, and every live feud in the group gets its turn. Reality Tea’s recap noted why it works — seven episodes in, this was only the second time the entire cast had been gathered in one place. The hour runs on callbacks, too: the party lands a year after the season-one shower for those same employees; the catering row dates to episode 4; the sister-wife row continues last week’s cliffhanger.

It is also where Jennie and Mary first openly go to war: her barging into somebody else’s fight, Mary policing how she speaks. The feud would run the rest of her single season, which ended early: in January 2022, while the season was still airing, her deleted 2020 Facebook posts disparaging the Black Lives Matter movement resurfaced. She apologised on 19 January; on 25 January Bravo announced it had “ceased filming” with her, conceding it had failed to act when the posts first came to its attention (TheWrap).

The human interaction (Analysis)

Nobody on that bus was arguing about carbonation. “I’ll Google it” landed as a demotion: Mary’s authority, in front of an audience, treated as checkable. Her response reached for the gravest charge available, and Lisa’s instant counter-threat — don’t paint me as a racist — shows both women knew the currency was credibility, not fizzy drinks.

Jennie’s intervention tells its own story: a third party jumping into a stalemate fight isn’t taking a side, she’s spending somebody else’s conflict. Her own later explanation — grief, and being ordered around — recasts the outburst without retracting it; the recaps read the fury as imported from her marriage. Mary, asked to receive that vulnerability, mostly refused: an apology tour requires an audience willing to be moved.

And Lisa keeps a private ledger: Angie’s accusation she could fight; the silence of her two closest friends while she fought it is the wound she carried out.

What people made of it

Audiences scored it well: 8.3 out of 10 from 47 votes on IMDb’s data, mirrored by EpisodeHive — a small, self-selected sample — and Nielsen counted 0.71 million live viewers (Showbuzz Daily via Wikipedia’s episode list), level with the season’s average.

Reality Tea’s recap put the fights to its readers directly — was Jennie picking a fight with Mary or defending her friend? Whose side were you on in each scuffle? — and published no results, so the camps stay qualitative. Its own sympathies sat with Lisa.

Reality Blurb’s recap centred the bus: its headline had Mary calling Lisa out for “belittling” her, and it argued Jennie’s anger was misdirected — frustration with Duy, spent on Mary. One recap saw a loyalty test Lisa passed alone; the other, a newcomer picking the wrong target on the worst day. The episode’s Reddit discussion thread and the comments under Bravo’s official clips could not be retrieved, so this survey rests on the ratings, the viewership and the recap record.
